Eligibility for SSDI & SSI – Social Security Benefits
Do I Qualify?
Unlike other programs, Social Security pays only for total disability. No benefits are payable for partial or short-term disability. And your disability must be expected to last more than 12 months.
A medically verifiable condition must be diagnosed in order to be eligible for Social Security benefits. While everyone’s exact physical and/or mental conditions are different, there are several diagnoses which most commonly lead to total disability and approval for SSDI and SSI benefits.
